Very Effective Oral Communication

English Composition II

This is the other half of the one I already took. It’s all about essays. Then talking about essays. Then reading essays. Then reading about writing essays. Then more essays. Sometimes it’s interesting, mostly it’s not difficult, though coming up with yet another topic will eventually suck. I’m carrying around a little booklet anyway for story ideas now, but there’s a section in the back for these frickin’ essays.

Beginning French II

Blah blah blah, oui oui oui. It’s not bad either, just more vocabulary and different situations. I’ve heard that the next set of Intermediate classes has the prof speaking nothing but French. I’m not sure if it’s a rumor or a promise, but I’m way better with speaking it than writing it, so I’m not worried about that. I was thinking about practicing writing more by actually writing a short story in French, but then decided not to traumatize my French teacher. Besides, there are probably phrases even Google Translate doesn’t know what to do with.

Effective Oral Communication

Speech class! I tried so hard not to have to take this, but it’s required too. I DO NOT LIKE PUBLIC SPEAKING! I sweat — not like a cute glow, but like give the guy a towel kind of sweat — and I clear my throat a lot. There’s a muscle in my thigh that twitches the whole time I’m standing up there too. So far we’ve only had to do these intro speeches all about us, but OMG it doesn’t help that I know my subject because I nearly forgot my name. (Seriously, I almost said Thorny Sterling.) And the very first day, for God’s sake, I couldn’t stop thinking about an “oral communication” I’m really good at…with an audience of one husband…while on my knees…and then I had to get up and introduce myself. Anyway, I’m thinking I’ll try and coordinate my endless essays with speech writing to save some of my sanity.

Foundation Drawing I

This is the really fun one. I’ll get up in the morning for this class. I can sketch something out that I’ll then paint over, but this is all about the drawing. Pencil, charcoal, conte crayon, and pen and ink. Plus, except for the conte crayon, it’s all black and white! Now I know you all say that it’s fine and art if I just use color any way I want, but I caught a lot of flack for it in high school from a teacher I know is a douche for what she did. That’s hard to get over and, though I’m working on it, it still creeps up and, with black and white, I can just let go and make art. No hang-ups. It’s also nice to be back in the Art Department and visiting everyone.

US History to 1877

Guess who’s totally stoked that I’m in this class? :) Yep, Jazz is following the syllabus right along with me and oh is he excited. I’m all, I know how this story ends, and he’s all, but isn’t it just fascinating?! Swear to God, if I came home and said we were going to do a pageant about the presidents, he’d make my costume. He does know a lot that isn’t even in the book, so I figured I was just going to knock my prof’s socks off with how much extra information I’ve got going on here. And then came the moment where Mr. Professor like rented out my husband by telling the whole class he’s there in the library to help them too. {pout} He’s my resource, dammit! I mean, it’s not like I’m going to pee on him or anything, but he’s going to save the really good stuff for the guy who gives him very effective oral communication, thanksverymuch.
